ThingS To Do At Riverside House

Fishing - Walking - Biking

One can fish either from our jetty, or there is a boat available. The fish normally caught in the river

include Roach, Black Bass, Barbel, Bream, Chub, Catfish, Pike, Perch, and Carp, for which it

is particularly popular. The best time for Carp is April to June and September to mid October. The

local record for a fish is around 129lbs!!!. Being fairly far south and west, September and October

often provide some of the most pleasant weather of the year.

The Lake

We have a very good tackle shop about ½ mile away, which stocks a wide range of equipment and

bait. A season's licence, which would cover all of France, can be bought at the tackle shop for about

45 €. A tourist license for two weeks is around 25 €.

Close by is fertile green and wooded farming country producing apples, strawberries and melons

amongst the odd field of sunflowers and vines. Spring comes early with warm days and cherry

blossom, (pick as many as you can eat!). In summer life moves slowly, interrupted only by the

noonday siesta and lasts well into September and often beyond, slowly turning to autumn when it is

time to harvest the walnuts and figs. There are many walks nearby, and this is excellent cycling

country taking you deep into the valleys of vineyards.

The people here are warm and friendly and it is impossible to go out and not stumble across a

flower festival, a village market groaning with local delicacies, a farm selling its own produce, or a

country antique market.

It is an area rich in history and the region is dotted with many bastide's, medieval, fortified hilltop

towns and villages, which have changed little, yet are still living communities that burst into life on

market days with stalls filled with fresh local produce and flowers.

Feeling more energetic, we also have three mountain bikes you can use.
